Preview:

NGK which stands for ‘Nanda Gopala Krishna/Kumaran’ marks the first collobration of Suriya and Selva Raghavan. Both are extremely talented in their respective fields. Yuvan Shankar raja has composed music for this album, Selvaraghavan and YSR combo had delivered several blockbuster albums in the past. Owing to all such positive reasons, The buzz around NGK was quite high from the time of its announcement. NGK to be political backdrop movie expectations spiked. With good trailer and album pre release bookings were quite good, the movie has released wolrdwide today.

Story:

NGK comes out with a serious political drama. This show cases the growth of Nanda Gopala Kumaran, a common farmer to become NGK, the most powerful politician.

Analysis:

Director Selva Raghavan who is known for conventional stories and screenplay, falls way behind in NGK. A very paper thin storyline with a confusing screenplay has damaged the NGK. Though first half was quite decent, second half is unbearable and pathetically handled. Selvaraghavan’s screenplay went flat, it almost failed to establish the story. The screenplay seemed like it was written to pull the movie till climax. However, first half as all the moments what fans want. Transformation scene will be one of the best scenes of this year.

Selvaraghavan could have watched Nene Raju Nene Mantri which had similar story line, Characterisations and Screenplay.

Suriya has pulled the movie to the best he can. If the screenplay and scenes were supporting, this best work of Suriya as an actor would have easily done wonders at box office.

Sai pallavi as Mythili, played the character of NGK’s loving wife. Rakul Preet has Vanathi, Political colleague and a kind of mistress to NGK. Both their characters were written very loosely. The lack of emotions between the characters made the romantic and emotional scenes too boring to bear. Generally, Selvaraghavan’s area of strength is romance and building a emotional relationship between the characters. Whether it be Kadhal Konden, 7G Rainbow Colony, Pudhupettai, Amaravati Maatalaku Ardhale Verule, in all this movies characters would have carried the movie, That’s what failed in NGK.

Devraj character pre Interval plays a crucial part in the movie, fantastic performance. Ponvanna, Bala Singh, Ilavarasu had performed well with what they had.

Background score of Yuvan Shankar raja is a fantastic plus to the movie, he has lifted the action episodes to the next level. Right from the comeback, Yuvan is never wasting a chance to impress the audience. Decent work from all other technical departments, if at all the narration was gripping and good.

Final Verdict:

A confused opinion between critically good and commercially bad. Overall, though the movie is flat, there are some few good moments in parts. Watchable recommendation completely lies on one’s perspective.
