Just like any other espionage thrillers, this too is based upon people fighting to save our country. The story mainly revolves around Himmat Singh of Research and Analysis wing who doubts that a single person is behind all the terrorist attacks in India. After working hard for 10 long years, the task force team of five agents try to catch this criminal mastermind. Will they do it? And how? Forms the major crux of the plot.
This Kay Kay Menon’s Hotstar web series is one of the best and gripping thriller series on any digital platforms. Even though the series doesn’t go as fast as those in Amazon Prime or Netflix, the undeviated storytelling steals the show.
The Special Ops is not only about some revenge type, but it is also about catching hold of that big fish who was the reason for all the chaos in the country. It is about saving lives in our country. Himmat is loyal to India and to the task force. In the first episode itself we get to know the entire story from Himmat’s point of view. Thanks to the interrogation by the Audit team from Internal affairs.
Coming to the others, out of five task force agents, Karan Tacker plays the role of Farroq. He excels in the role given to him and performs quite well. Another agent is a docile wife who keeps her Agent career secret to all the family members. There is not much revealed about her, probably to keep up the excitement of the audience.
This isn’t just an ordinary espionage thriller, there are several subplots that are thought-provoking too. These include politics in India, the hero Himmat’s relation with his wife and their daughter.
The show is co-written and co-directed by Neeraj Pandey. In the first 5 episodes, the makers only show about the plan and how it is being executed. But due to a number of flashbacks, the twists can be understood by the audience way before they are revealed which is indeed a disappointment. And then after the show seems to pick up as we reach the end of the 8th episode, but the climax is a huge let down again. The makers put in a lot of effort to submerge the audience in the plot with a lot of fight scenes, emotions, and background music. But sadly, all are gone in vain. Only a few scenes have come out well, while the other looks unnecessary.
Overall the show has some exceptional performances to a well-bounded script and mediocre taking. On a whole, the series looks good but there are pores when u look at it clearly. But nevertheless, it can be watched once by everyone for sure.
Bottom Line: Give it a try for sure!
